Who we are
ImproChef (improchef.cooking) is run by Martin Sumec, based in the United Kingdom. We are the "controller" of your personal data, which means we decide how it's used.
For anything about your data, email us at hello@improchef.cooking.
The newsletter
If you subscribe to "The Sunday Leftover", we collect:
- Your email address (required), so we can send you the newsletter.
- Your first name (optional), so we can greet you by name.
- When and how you signed up, including your consent and confirmation, so we can prove you asked to receive our emails.
- Whether you open our emails and click links in them, so we can see which recipes and tips are useful.
Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR). You give it by ticking the box on the sign-up form and confirming through the link we email you ("double opt-in").
Who handles it: our newsletter is sent with Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France), which stores your details on our behalf in the European Union. Brevo may only use your data to provide its service to us.
How long we keep it: until you unsubscribe. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also simply email us. After you unsubscribe we remove your details, apart from a record that you unsubscribed, which stops us from emailing you again by mistake.
When you email us
If you write to hello@improchef.cooking, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. We use it only to reply to you. Emails sent to this address are forwarded by Cloudflare and stored in our Google (Gmail) mailbox.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering your message (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR). We delete conversations when they are no longer needed.
When you visit the website
Like every website, ours has to receive some technical information to show you the pages:
- Hosting: the site is hosted by Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic browser information to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks.
- Visitor statistics: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It does not use cookies, does not track you across websites and does not identify you personally.
- Fonts: our fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google's servers and shares your IP address with Google.
- Sign-up form: on the homepage, the newsletter form loads a script from Brevo, which receives your IP address when the page loads.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR).
Cookies
ImproChef does not set any cookies and does not use advertising or tracking tools. That's why there is no cookie banner.
Links to other sites
We link to our Instagram account and some other websites. Nothing is shared with them unless you click the link. Once you're on their site, their own privacy policy applies.
Transfers outside the UK
Some of the services we use process data outside the UK:
- Brevo stores newsletter data in the European Union, which the UK recognises as protecting personal data to UK standards.
- Cloudflare and Google are US companies. They protect transferred data under the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and the UK's approved contract terms for international transfers.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) you can ask us at any time to:
- see the personal data we hold about you,
- correct it if it's wrong,
- delete it,
- limit how we use it, or object to how we use it,
- receive a copy of it in a common format,
- withdraw your consent, for example by unsubscribing. This doesn't affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
Email hello@improchef.cooking and we'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). If you live in the European Union, you can also contact the data protection authority in your country, listed on the European Data Protection Board's website.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects newsletter subscribers in a significant way, we'll tell you by email.
